Consumers Energy Cooperative of Iowa offers scholarships!

Consumers Energy Cooperative of Iowa offers an annual academic scholarship program to support high school seniors who are dependents of cooperative members in Iowa and are pursuing postsecondary education.

The scholarship recipients are chosen based on a combination of criteria, including their:

  • Academic performance (grades)
  • Work experience
  • Involvement in extracurricular activities at school and within the community
  • Recommendation from a third party

This scholarship program is an excellent opportunity for students who are not only excelling academically but are also active in their communities and workplaces, providing financial support to help them achieve their higher education goals. Applications are typically available between December and March.

Academic Scholarships are available to dependents of members of Consumers Energy of Iowa.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

SCHOLARSHIP:

  • Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to applicants pursuing a post-secondary education in a full-time graduate or undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Must currently be a senior in high school.
  • Must be a dependent of a Consumers Energy member.

SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Complete the application form by typing or printing. Attach additional sheets if necessary.
  • Enclose your most recent academic transcript from your high school.
  • Enclose one letter of reference from a teacher, counselor, or employer.
  • Answer the following question. The essay should be no less than 300 words.
    • How does energy efficiency affect you, your family, and the cooperative as a whole?
  • Return your completed application and supporting documentation to Consumers Energy by March 17, 2026.
  • Applications received after this date will not be considered.

SELECTION:

  • Selection criteria will be based on scholastic achievement, school and community involvement, work history, essay submission, and a written recommendation by a third party.

NOTIFICATION:

  • Scholarship recipients will receive notification from Consumers Energy. Due to the volume of applications expected, only students awarded a scholarship will be notified no later than April 14, 2026.

DISBURSEMENT:

  • Scholarships awarded shall be for $1,000 payable to the student and the educational institution the student will attend.

 

ONLY CONSUMERS ENERGY COOPERATIVE MEMBERS IN THE STATE OF IOWA ARE ELIGIBLE.
